Jasper County, Iowa is Hiring a Deputy Sheriff Near Newton, IA

Duties:
- Enforce laws and ordinances to maintain public safety and order
- Patrol assigned areas to deter criminal activity and respond to calls for service
- Conduct investigations, gather evidence, and make arrests as necessary
- Provide assistance and support to victims of crimes or accidents
- Serve legal documents such as warrants and subpoenas
- Conduct traffic stops and issue citations for traffic violations
- Assist with crowd control at public events or emergencies
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies on joint operations or investigations

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some positions may require additional education or certification
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, including criminal history check, polygraph examination, and psychological evaluation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations
- Physical fitness and ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including running, lifting, and restraining individuals if necessary

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior law enforcement experience or military service
- Certification as a peace officer or deputy sheriff

In-Person testing will be conducted for all candidates that complete the Civil Service Application on June 29, 20243. Testing will be at the Jasper County Armory Annex Building located at 1030 W. 2nd St. S in Newton, Iowa at 7:30 AM sharp. Testing includes; physical agility for non Iowa certified officers, Police Officers Standard Test (P.O.S.T.), and Interviews on the same day for qualifying candidates.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.56 - $37.54 per hour
